01
Meaningful Property Tax Relief
Taxation & Housing
Passed landmark legislation to reduce the property tax burden on Montana homeowners and renters. Rising costs had pushed thousands of families toward the edge — this bill delivered direct, measurable relief.
Championed by Senate Democrats who refused to let homeowners be squeezed out of communities they built. The bill passed with bipartisan support after months of negotiation.
02
Kept Judge Elections Nonpartisan
Judiciary Independence
Killed every bill attempting to inject party politics into Montana's judicial elections. An independent bench is a cornerstone of equal justice — and Democrats held the line to protect it.
Faced sustained pressure from well-funded special interests who wanted partisan labels on judge ballots. Senate Dems defeated each attempt, preserving courts that answer to the law — not to political donors.
03
Health Care Access Preserved
Medicaid & Coverage
Secured continued health care coverage for 90,000 Montanans who depend on Medicaid expansion. Working families, seniors, and people with disabilities kept their coverage because Democrats refused to let it expire.
Medicaid expansion has been a lifeline for rural Montanans with no other options. Democrats fought off repeal attempts and secured full funding — ensuring no Montanan lost their doctor over politics.
04
Affordable Housing Investment
Housing & Families
Passed a package of housing investments to increase supply, stabilize rents, and support first-time homebuyers. Montana's housing crisis demanded bold action — and Democrats delivered it.
Worked across committees to address both urban affordability and rural access — including infrastructure funding, zoning reform support, and direct assistance for low-income renters.
05
Historic Child Care Funding
Early Childhood
Secured the single largest child care investment in Montana history. Quality, affordable child care has been out of reach for too many working parents — this legislation changes that for thousands of families statewide.
Partnered with early childhood advocates and business leaders who recognized child care as economic infrastructure. Funding supports new facilities, provider wages, and sliding-scale assistance for working families.
06
Protected Montana's Independent Judiciary — 21 of 27
Rule of Law
Blocked 21 of 27 bills designed to weaken Montana's independent courts. From stripping court jurisdiction to packing benches, each attack was methodically defeated by Senate Democrats.
The assault on the judiciary was the most coordinated in recent Montana history. Democrats built coalitions and leveraged every procedural tool to stop legislation that would have fundamentally altered how justice is delivered.
07
Education Investment
Schools & Students
Passed meaningful legislation to better support teachers and students with special needs. Every Montana child deserves a quality education — and every teacher deserves the resources to deliver it.
Working with educators and special education advocates, these bills improved funding formulas, expanded services for students with disabilities, and addressed teacher recruitment and retention statewide.
08
Bodily Autonomy Upheld
Reproductive Freedom
Fought back against a wave of legislation attacking personal bodily autonomy and reproductive rights. Democrats stood firm — protecting Montanans' right to make their own private health decisions.
Montana's constitutional right to privacy was the anchor of the legal argument — and it held. Each bill was met with organized, principled opposition from Senate Democrats who understood what was at stake.
09
Tribal Sovereignty Honored
Native Communities
Defended tribal sovereignty and upheld critical protections for Native American children's welfare and educational rights. Montana has treaty obligations — and Senate Democrats made clear those obligations will be honored.
Engaged directly with tribal leaders throughout the session. Blocked legislation undermining tribal child welfare protocols and worked to expand educational resources for Native students across the state.
10
Right to Privacy Secured
Civil Liberties
Protected Montanans' constitutional right to privacy against legislative overreach. Government surveillance, data collection, and intrusion into private life were all targeted — and all defeated.
Democrats used Montana's strong constitutional privacy protections as a shield — defeating bills that would have opened unprecedented government access into citizens' private lives.

Priorities for Montana

Affordable Living

Housing costs have skyrocketed across Montana. We've passed meaningful property tax relief and invested in affordable housing so every Montana family can afford a place to call home.

Health Care Access

Every Montanan deserves access to quality, affordable health care. We secured continued coverage for 90,000 Montanans who depend on Medicaid expansion to stay healthy and work.

Public Schools & Child Care

We passed the largest child care investment in Montana history and fought for teachers and special education — because investing in children means investing in Montana's future.

Reproductive Freedom

We will always defend Montanans' constitutional right to make their own private health decisions. Bodily autonomy is not negotiable — and we fought off every attempt to take it away.

Public Lands & Conservation

Montana's rivers, forests, and open spaces are our greatest inheritance. We will always fight to keep them public, pristine, and accessible to every Montanan — not sold off to the highest bidder.

Tribal Sovereignty

Montana's tribal nations deserve a true partner in Helena. We defended tribal sovereignty and upheld protections for Native children's welfare and education — because treaty obligations are sacred.

Montana Values
Don't Have a
Party Label.

In the 2025 legislative session, Montana Democrats didn't just fight the other side — they strategically worked with it to secure wins for all Montanans. When the opportunity arose to deliver real wins for Montana families, they crossed the aisle, built strategic coalitions, and leveraged their votes to secure historic wins in affordable housing, health care, child care, public schools, protecting your right to privacy, and preserving Montana's long-standing independent judiciary. None of it required a party line vote — just a shared commitment to the people back home.

That's the Montana way. You show up, you do the work, and you measure success by what actually changes in people's lives — not by how many fights you picked. Montana Democrats proved in 2025 that the best results come when you lead with Montana values instead of partisan talking points.
